About the brand

Yamaha

Yamaha was born in 1887 in Hamamatsu, when Torakusu Yamaha began making reed organs under the name Nippon Gakki. The company was incorporated in 1897 and only adopted the Yamaha Corporation name in 1987. The first piano made in Japan came out in 1900, and the first grand piano in 1902. In 1955, the motorcycle division gave rise to Yamaha Motor, a separate company. Yamaha Corporation remains headquartered in Hamamatsu.

In home audio, Yamaha's story began as a maker of hi-fi speakers in 1967, when it adapted for home use the NS (Natural Sound) speakers created for its Electone organs. The first generation of stereo components came in 1972, with the 700 series. The CA-1000 integrated amplifier and the NS-690 speakers, from the White Wood line, were launched around 1973. In 1974 came the NS-1000, which Yamaha presents as the first speaker system with a pure beryllium diaphragm.

In 1986, Yamaha launched the DSP-1, the world's first digital sound field processor, and in 1988 the first CD recorder. Today audio is one of the group's three business segments, and the home line includes AV receivers, speakers and the MusicCast multiroom system. At the top of the receivers is the AVENTAGE series, whose RX-A8A has 11.2 channels, 8K HDMI and CINEMA DSP processing. Room calibration is handled by YPAO, which analyses the room's acoustics and adjusts each channel.

Highlights

Why choose this brand

01

MusicCast

A wireless multiroom system: compatible receivers and speakers are controlled from the same app and share sources between rooms.

02

YPAO calibration

Measures the room's acoustics with a microphone and adjusts each channel. Higher versions offer multi-point and 3D measurement and reflection control (R.S.C.).

03

AVENTAGE receivers

The top of the AV receiver line: the RX-A8A has 11.2 channels, Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, 8K HDMI and A.R.T. anti-vibration technology.

04

Hi-fi heritage: NS-1000

A 1974 speaker with a beryllium tweeter and midrange, a stiff and light material. Reviewers still cite it for its transparency and neutrality.
