UniFi
Network, cameras and access in a single ecosystem
About the brand
UniFi
UniFi is the network, camera and access control line of Ubiquiti, an American company founded in 2005 by Robert Pera, a radio engineer who had worked at Apple. Pera noticed that Wi-Fi equipment ran well below the permitted power and realised that raising it could bring signal to poorly served regions. When Apple did not want to pursue the idea, he started his own business, and the first products were radios and wireless equipment for internet service providers.
Ubiquiti went public in October 2011. The UniFi line started with Wi-Fi access points for businesses and, over time, added switches, gateways, IP cameras, access control and telephony, all managed from the same platform. In 2019 its legal name became Ubiquiti Inc., and its headquarters are now in New York.
The heart of UniFi is its software. UniFi Network works as the controller for access points, switches and gateways and can run on a UniFi OS console or on computers with Linux, macOS or Windows. UniFi Protect, for video surveillance, and UniFi Access, for access control, run on UniFi OS and require a console from the brand. Among the access points, the Wi-Fi 7 U7 Pro has three bands (2.4, 5 and 6 GHz), a 2.5 GbE port and PoE+ power.
