Dynaudio

A world reference in drivers

The brand

History

It all began in 1977, in the small town of Skanderborg, by a lake in Denmark, when the young engineer Wilfried Ehrenholz — then just 22 years old — decided that the loudspeakers on the market simply did not tell "the whole truth" about music. Dissatisfied with the technical limits of the OEM drivers of the time, he chose a path that was rare in the industry: to design and build his own drivers from scratch, instead of just assembling cabinets with third-party components.

That obsession with sonic integrity — the idea that the listener should feel the emotion of the original performance, not analyse frequencies — remains intact more than four decades later. Dynaudio is still based in Skanderborg, where today almost 300 people develop and build every critical component in-house: the magnets are magnetised in the factory itself, the voice coils are wound with aluminium wire (lighter than conventional copper, allowing larger coils and better heat dissipation) and the MSP cone material is produced in a single piece, with no glue between cone and dust cap.

The soft-dome tweeters — now in their third generation, Esotar3 — are perhaps the brand's most recognised sound signature, refined year after year in geometry, stiffness and coating for a more linear treble response than competitors with metal domes. In 2016, the company opened a new R&D facility in Skanderborg, reaffirming its commitment to keeping the whole acoustic engineering chain on Danish soil.

Highlights

Why we work with it

Drivers 100% developed in-house

From magnetising the magnets to winding the aluminium-wire voice coils, every driver is designed and built by Dynaudio itself, with no outsourcing.

Esotar3 tweeter

A soft (non-metal) dome refined for more than four decades, with a more linear and natural treble response than conventional metal domes.

Proprietary MSP material

Cones made in a single piece — including the dust cap — eliminating the need for glue and ensuring superior stiffness and lightness.

100% Danish manufacturing

All production remains in Skanderborg, Denmark, the brand's home since 1977, with almost 300 employees dedicated to testing, listening to and refining every part.
