About the brand
Epson
Seiko Epson was founded on 18 May 1942 in Suwa, Nagano prefecture, as Daiwa Kogyo, by Hisao Yamazaki, the owner of a watch shop. Suwa Seikosha, the forerunner of Seiko Epson, was created in 1959. In 1968 the company launched the EP-101, described as the world's first mini printer, and in 1975 the Epson name appeared, from 'Electronic Printer' plus 'son', meaning 'son of the electronic printer'. The merger of Suwa Seikosha and Epson Corporation formed Seiko Epson in 1985.
The MX-80 dot-matrix printer arrived in 1980, the HX-20 notebook in 1982 and, in 1993, Micro Piezo inkjet technology, which debuted in the MJ-500 cartridge. Epson listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange in 2003 and had 75,352 employees in March 2025. Its headquarters are in Suwa. In its home theater projectors, the company uses the three-chip 3LCD system and pixel shifting to reach 4K PRO-UHD resolution.
The Home Cinema 5050UB, launched in April 2019, uses 0.74-inch 3LCD panels, delivers 2,600 lumens and offers lens shift of ±47% horizontally and ±96% vertically. The EpiqVision Ultra LS800 line, announced on 29 September 2022, is an ultra-short-throw laser projector: 4,000 lumens, an image of up to 150 inches just a few centimetres from the wall, Android TV and 2.1 sound designed by Yamaha. There are black (LS800B) and white (LS800W) versions, and the 100 and 120-inch SilverFlex screens are sold separately.
