Nexans

Nexans is headquartered in Paris and became an independent company in 2000, when Alcatel spun off its cable division. Its roots go back much further: in 1879, François Borel invented waterproof electrical cables; in 1897 the Société Française de Câbles was formed in Lyon; in 1917 the business became the Compagnie Générale des Câbles de Lyon, bought by CGE in 1925. In 1982 Câbles de Lyon acquired the German Kabel- und Metallwerke and, in 1986, joined ITT's cable operations, which led to the Alcatel Cable name.

In 1996 Alcatel took full control of Alcatel Cable. In May 2000 it announced that the division would be spun off under the Nexans name, and in June 2001 the company debuted on Euronext Paris, which reduced Alcatel's stake to around 30%. Nexans bought the Australian company Olex in 2012 and is today one of the largest cable manufacturers in the world. In 2024 it had revenue of 8.54 billion euros and more than 28,500 employees.

In data infrastructure, Nexans groups its structured cabling in the LAN Systems line, which includes LANmark, LANsense and LANactive. For category 6 there is the Essential CAT 6 UTP cable, for horizontal cabling, certified by Anatel. Systems installed 100% with Nexans products carry a 25-year warranty, according to the manufacturer. In 2014, Nexans supplied Cat6 data and voice cabling for the temporary press centre at Arena São Paulo, the Itaquerão stadium.
