The brand

History

Primare was born in the early 1980s, when the Danish industrial designer Bo Christensen, dissatisfied with the "button-heavy" look and generic sound of the equipment of his time, brought together a team of engineers — among them Bent Nielsen — to found Primare Systems AB in 1985. The mission was clear: components with exceptional sound quality, an elegant appearance, precise proportions and a simple interface, designed as "living products" able to evolve over time instead of following the industry's typical disposable twelve-month cycle.

In 1993, the brand joined the Swedish company Xena — owner of the equally respected Copland and QLN — and moved its headquarters to southern Sweden, where it remains to this day, in Limhamn, near Malmö. Under the leadership of Lars Pedersen, Primare consolidated the minimalist Scandinavian aesthetic that defines it and launched, in 1998, the 30 series — the conceptual basis for all the generations that followed.

For more than forty years, Primare has translated the Swedish concept of lagom — the contentment that comes from perfect balance, neither too much nor too little — into amplifiers, streamers and processors that combine very low-noise analogue engineering, proprietary Class D amplification technology (UFPD 2) and the Prisma streaming platform, always in brushed aluminium cabinets designed to last for generations.
